Ecological Restoration

Short-sighted development, reckless forest practices, clear-cutting and road-building has led to the deforestation of much of Western Oregon. These practices, in turn, have resulted in massive landslides, severe flooding and the extinction of numerous species.

By planting trees and native plant species on land damaged by industrial forestry practices and other development, the Breitenbush Eco Fund creates educational models and scientific practices of use to the general public and for future generations.

The Breitenbush Eco Fund acquired 67 acres of forest land adjacent to Breitenbush Hot Springs and the Willamette National Forest. Recently slated for major development, this once pristine wildlife habitat has been clear-cut, bulldozed and dynamited, reducing much of it to a wasteland.

The Eco Fund will use the land as a living laboratory of wildland restoration and appropriate technology, and will continue pursuing opportunities such as this one for restoring land which has been deforested or "developed".

Holistic Health

As holistic healing and wellness education becomes more widely accepted in our culture, it is especially important to make these resources affordable and accessible to a diversity of individuals and communities. To accomplish this, the Breitenbush Eco Fund underwrities programs and workshops at holistic centers, and provides scholarships for low-income individuals.

Workshops and classes will include topics such as yoga, meditation, the use of ancient and natural healing practices and the ongoing evolution of our place and relationships in an ever changing and complex world. Restoring the balance of mind, body and spirit in the individual promotes both personal healing and healthier communities.
